Short answer: Firefox Focus blocks trackers by default and is open source, so it is the better choice for limiting tracking; Incognito Browser wipes history, cookies and sessions when you exit the app and has a built-in ad blocker.

How we compared: We use the same nine rows on this page and on our comparisons with Chrome Incognito mode and DuckDuckGo. The Firefox Focus column comes from Mozilla’s own pages and code, listed under Sources. Where something about Incognito Browser is not documented, the cell says so.
How they compare
Firefox Focus and Incognito Browser are built for the same job: quick private browsing on a phone. Both are free. Incognito Browser does not hide your IP address, and Mozilla lists no VPN or IP masking for Focus.
Firefox Focus is the stronger choice for blocking trackers. Mozilla says Focus blocks a wide range of trackers by default, including social trackers, and that this also removes many ads. Its settings cover ad, analytic, social and other content trackers. Incognito Browser has a built-in ad blocker. Whether it also blocks tracking domains is not documented. Android Authority’s list of privacy browsers says Incognito Browser does not stop sites from tracking you.
Firefox Focus is also open source. It is made by Mozilla, and anyone can read its code. Incognito Browser is not open source. Google Play’s Data safety section says Incognito Browser may collect crash logs, diagnostics and other app performance data. Focus is available on iPhone as well as Android. Incognito Browser is Android only.
The two apps forget in different ways. In Focus, you erase your session by tapping the trash button or the erase notification. Its source code also removes all tabs when you swipe the app out of recent apps. Incognito Browser wipes history, cookies and sessions when you exit the app. Downloaded files are kept.
Incognito Browser opens IPFS, .eth and .crypto addresses, which Mozilla does not list for Focus. It also has Agent Cloaking, which masks the browser and device the site sees. We do not claim that Agent Cloaking prevents fingerprinting.
Neither app lists protection against fingerprinting in the material we checked. If that matters to you, look at Brave or DuckDuckGo, which both document it. If you need to hide your IP address, look at Tor Browser.
Choose Incognito Browser if…
- You want a browser that wipes history, cookies and sessions when you exit the app.
- You open IPFS, .eth or .crypto addresses.
- You want Agent Cloaking, which masks the browser and device the site sees and can load desktop versions of sites.
- You want fast, multi-threaded downloads and a video downloader (not every video can be downloaded every time).
Choose Firefox Focus if…
- You want trackers blocked by default.
- You want an open-source browser from Mozilla.
- You use an iPhone.
- You want to erase a session at any moment with one tap, including from the notification.
- You prefer a browser backed by a nonprofit organization.
